I am a second-year student at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver. I study business, design, and sustainable community development (lots of stuff, eh?).

Outside of my studies, I am an community activist who is always on the lookout to collaborate on solving wicked social problems.

Choy-On-The-Go  Fall 2017

SFU BUS 238 - Entrepreneurship + Innovation

Mobile grocery stand that redistributed recycled produce at a low barrier price to Chinese seniors in Vancouver’s DTES. I oversaw collaboration and education on how farmer’s End-of-Market produce can be redirected to help communities.

Let's Start Here Zine  Fall 2017

SFU SD/REM 281 - Intro to Sustainable Community Development

Curated an educational maga-”Zine” for SFU EMBARK about how to approach reconciliation as a non-Indigenous settler. Critical approach was taken that provided feedback from local Indigenous academics and students.

Skoll Global Challenge Finalist Spring 2017

SFU Case Competition

Researched and analyzed current foster care system in B.C. for this Case Competition. We highlighted social gaps in a visual infographic and presentation where team received praise for effective storytelling and critical thinking.

Office Assistant + Project Coordinator  Winter 2015 - Summer 2017

Wallmark Custom Homes

Assisted accounts payable clerk with invoice coding and entry. I was responsible for updating notable scheduling on sub-trades, customer communication, social media marketing, and warranty. I created the company's warranty system that helped decrease wait times and increase customer satisfaction.

 

Barrista + Baker Winter 2015 – Fall 2015

JJ Bean Coffee Rosters

Provided people-orientated customer service, while serving customers with an integrity-based experience. Responsible for baked goods and inventory orders to ensure that the baking ingredients were stocked.

 

Ski Instructor Winter 2013 - Winter 2015

Grouse Mountain

Coached all levels of skiers on how to gain proficiency in skiing in a safe and friendly environment. Created and adjusted lesson plans to best match the varying learning goals of the students.

 

VOLUNTEER +ACTIVIST EXPERIENCE

Speaker on the Historical Discrimination of Chinese People Fall 2017

Vancouver City Hall

I spoke at the public hearing on behalf of Chinese-Canadian citizens about the effects of racist policies on my diaspora. My speech was featured in a CBC article about the development 105 Keefer street in Vancouver’s Chinatown.

SFU COLOUR Co-President Fall 2017 - Present

Simon Fraser Student Society

Co-founded the grassroots initiative to introduce community-led art projects at SFU’s Burnaby Campus.  I organize community events and meetings with administrators to further the club’s objectives.

 

Student Health and Advisory Committee Member Fall 2017 – Present

SFU Health Services

Student-led initiative that seeks to create conditions that allow for students to thrive mentally and physically while on campus. I am responsible for creating promotional material and providing diversity feedback.

 

Diversity Volunteer Fall 2016 - Present

CJSF

I curate diverse playlist of women-of-colour for the radio station. My work involves hosting workshops on incorporating racialized voices in regular programming. 

 

Independent Event Coordinator Summer 2016

Downtown Eastside Women’s Shelter

Hosted a local clothing drive to raise essential goods for the Downtown Eastside Women’s Shelter. Through effective online advertising and community engagement, 11 boxes were raised.
